Every once in awhile, more often than not, I like to jot down my thoughts, feelings, ideas, and what I’d like to see happen in the future. I have reams of notebooks laying around the house (my wife hates it!) with all kinds of stuff. Sometimes I’ll look back and either have a laugh, shed a tear, or get fired up and inspired to do something. I love these times as it really helps me get through a rough spot or mential block. It also keeps me accountable for completing certain tasks.

In the business and personal development circle this is what’s called a brain dump. I came across this term one day while reading a post at Lynn Terry’s Clicknewz.com blog. It’s something that I’ve been doing for some time now but didn’t really have a name for it. I kind of like it.

Anyway, I thought it would be kind of cool to start listing here on this blog my brain dumps. Of course, I will only keep the brain dumpings on subject as I am involved in several other things besides online marketing. If you read my about page you’ll see what I mean. I don’t think you’d want to see my ideas and thoughts about my church or the rec center. So I will be keeping my hopefully coherent ramblings centered on advertising, copywriting, affiliate marketing, internet, and anything else that kind of fits.

So… here’s what’s going on in my head right now. (Watch out! That can be pretty scary.)

I still don’t know what to think about the whole forced continuity scandal that has erupted in the last couple of days. If you haven’ heard about it, you can read some of it here, here, and here to name just a few. I guess I’ll let them do the talking.

Advertising to me is still like a sport. It’s adrenaline. It’s chasing after a win. It’s suppose to be played by rules to make it fair for both customer and seller.

I’ll be launching a few new services at my website Guaranteed-Ads.com and changing some of the ones that are there.

I haven’t published my newsletter in months. I really need to get back to that.

I am debating whether or not to change my Guaranteed-Ads.com site from a static website to a blog system. I haven’t seen any recommendations to do so, in fact just the opposite.

I love spring time. I don’t like the mud but I love the warmer weather, the ability to go outside without having to wear 40 pounds of clothing, and the yard work. Yes… I said yard work!

I think a combination of email and RSS can be a powerful advertising medium.

I love Twitter. At first I was hesitant to begin using it but it’s been great. Haven’t really wasted any time on it with the use of Twhirl and have met some great people. I have even been able to pick up new clients. That’s always a plus but not the main reason I use Twitter. I don’t think it should be.

I am really thinking about starting a podcast/vidcast very soon. But I don’t want it to be like anything else out already. I don’t really have the tech know how to do really cool videos, but I think just different in general. Whatever that means.

Quality copywriting comes from the heart and not with the goal for making money. You have to feel a passion for the product or the people visiting the site. Preferably both.

Kind of sick of marketing gurus telling people to find the next big “keyword” and build sites around it. If you don’t like the niche in the first place… stay away. You’re only going to shoot yourself in the foot.

I have recently been using an awesome technique in writing ads that has increased response rates pretty drastically. I call it the “culturally relevant” writing technique. Basically, it’s using whatever is going on in the world now in the ad to make the ad more personal and real. Works awesome!

I need a new book to read. I’m looking for something in SEO. Any advice?
