The Your Daily Kick is the place to find daily advertising tips, motivation, and success principles to help you on your online marketing journey. Use these tips in your online marketing plan for daily traffic, long lasting success, and higher profits.

Today’s Your Daily Kick is all about landing pages.

Affiliate marketing is all about the landing page that you direct traffic to. This landing page (squeeze page, capture page, or whatever else you want to call it) can be a simple one page website, a few pages of content, or a full blown blog site with a special page dedicated to capture leads and pre-selling the product. Whichever way that you want to create one, a landing page, is the key to your overall affiliate marketing success.

This is the one page on your site that will;

- pre-sell the visitor into clicking to merchant site,

- deliver a power packed statement about the affiliate product,

- collect email addresses for building email list,

- create awareness about the product with news clips, videos, or special downloadable reports,

- and even show a video demonstrating the product, among other things.

The importance of creating really good landing pages has been talked about endlessly by many different people. There is some really great information about how to make great looking, and great selling, landing pages, but so few marketers actually put this advice into practice. Each week I am presented with a the opportunity to work with new clients that need help with their internet marketing and advertising. One of the biggest problems I see when doing my initial research into their current advertising, one thing I find more than anything else is that there is a poorly designed landing page – or, the complete lack of one.

Landing Pages – Fix Yours Today

Today’s daily kick is all about getting you motivated to fix that landing page. Or, create a landing page of your own! I’m not going to go into the actual “how to create a landing page”, or “how to design a landing page,” but I do want to get you started on the road to having a very good landing page.

Landing pages are integral to your overall affiliate marketing, network marketing, email list building, service providing, or info product selling success. Without one, you are simply shooting a shotgun loaded with birdshot at a small target 50 yards away. Very slim chance of hitting anything.

Creating a landing page, or fixing the one you have, will help you bring that shot into closer and the target, much easier to hit. However… you have to do it. Do not take the importance of a landing page for granted. Make it your priority today to do something about your landing page.

Easiest Way To Create Landing Pages

With the invention of Wordpress, there is simply no other better way to create landing pages. With a good webhost, you can easily create several landing pages with Wordpress. You can use Wordpress.org for a free version, but it is much better to have your own domain and your own host. You do not even have to know how to design anything.

One of the biggest problems in creating landing pages is the design aspect. I am simply horrible and graphic design. I can see what I want, I just can not make it happen. However, with Wordpress, I simply use a theme already included with it (just make some simple changes), or I can use something like The Thesis Theme for WordPress or Affiliate Theme. They have tremendous themes that are easily customizable and create incredible looking landing pages.

The point of today is not to get you to buy something. But, to get you to do something about that hideous landing page! Go fix it. Go spruce it up a little. Even a small change to the heading, or some of the subtitles, or a few of the words in your copy will give it a huge

Landing Page Video Resources

Here are a few videos you can check out to help you with your landing page design. One is a short video by SEOMOz that shows some landing page optimization tricks. It is really very informative and only a few minutes long. The second video is a complete webinar. There is a lot of information, but it is also over an hour long. If you have the time, check it out.

I truly believe that if you do not embrace new technologies then you are going to be left behind very quickly. Creating videos for affiliate marketing, online advertising, and building your brand is something that many people are starting to do. You just have to look at YouTube to see that. A lot of the videos are affiliate videos, or teaching videos, from one website or another. I even wrote a short post on getting your video going now.

Today is the day that video plays a part in your overall marketing strategy.

Video Creates Internet Marketing Stars

Online video has come full circle. Many people are using video today on their blogs, on video websites, and even as a way to do instant live discussions using a site like Qik.

Taking advantage of his very powerful medium will really help you not only advertise your website, but also build a strong authoritative voice for yourself and your business. This is really the goal. Once people can have another way to connect with you – the real you, not the anonymous you – results become much higher, and faster.

Many online business owners, however, are a little hesitant to use online video as a means of marketing their products and services. I can certainly understand this. I am still having some hesitancy in this department. However, I am ready to make that jump. In fact, I have already recorded several for a new product I am making called ‘Story‘ at SocialMediaMarketerTips.com.

Not That Hard To Do

When you really get down to the actual ‘how to make a video for online marketing’ basics, it is not all that hard to do. If you have a video camera, a web cam, or even a cell phone with video capability, you can make a video. One major misconception is that you need to have an expensive camera in order to make good videos. That just is not the case. Most marketers use the Flip video camera. It only costs around $150 and is very easy to use.

Two Minutes Is All You Need

You also do not need to create a full length feature movie. A few minutes of you is enough. The content is entirely up to you, but you should gear it towards the topic of your site. For example, if you want to drive traffic to your landscaping and gardening website, you could do short videos on how to transfer plants or any other aspect of gardening. You could also do short little informational videos about flowers, techniques, and different tools.

Once you have the video shot, then do some simple editing and then upload to your website, your social networking site, or YouTube. Before too long you will have built up a large following, and people who can not wait for the next “show”.

Easy Video Tips To Making One Today.

Since I am definitely not an expert in using video for online and social marketing, there are some things that I think are very important.

1. Know what you are going to say. There is nothing worse than someone stalling, and going through a lot of “ummm” and “ahhh” on the video. Write out a short script, or rehearse beforehand.

2. Make it short. We already touched on this, but people do not want to sit and watch long videos. Two to three minutes is enough.

3. Get the the point quickly. To help make the video short, cut out any fluff, or other things that will take away from what you want to say. Just get to the point quickly.

4. Be natural. You do not have to act like you are going for an Oscar. Just be the regular you, doing what you usually do.

5. Good lighting. Trying to watch a video that is dark or hard to see is not a lot of fun. Make sure you have a lot of good natural lighting, or that your room is well lit.

6. Have fun with it. Doing something that is not a lot of fun can get to be a hardship rather than a benefit. Enjoy it. Be creative. Do different things. But, have fun doing it.

Go Make Your Video… Now!

So, go ahead. Set up your video camera and shoot that short little video. Upload it to your Facebook profile, a YouTube profile, or directly to your website. But, just do it.

Once you get your video uploaded some where, why not let us know where? I’d love to see it!

Your Daily Kick is my daily commitment to deliver solid steps for you to take in your internet marketing journey. Today’s kick is one we have visited before, but something you should do now…

Drop A Comment

Commenting on blogs is a method of attracting targeted traffic for a few years now. When it first started, the comments were something like, “Great blog! Check out my blog too!” Oddly enough, it worked. You would not receive thousands of new hits to your own website, but you would begin to receive new traffic. Today, this type of comment does not work. In most cases, it will not even be approved by the moderator. So, dropping a comment on a blog is not a quick process.

Comment Today

Before you travel to your favorite blog and begin dropping comments, there are some things you should first keep in mind.

1. Always keep the comment on topic.

2. When commenting on a blog post you have two choices; agree and expand on the point being made, or disagree and offer a civil rebuttal.

3. Comment on blogs that you want to be a fixture at. What this means is that you are willing to join in several of the conversations that are happening on the blog.

4. Only place a link in your comment if it is relevant to your point. Other readers will find your blog by simply clicking on your name.

5. Commenting on blogs is not a place for overt advertising. It is a relationship bridge.

Find Five Blogs To Comment On

Your task today is to find five blogs that you can leave a comment on. Make sure that they are all relevant to your own website. Follow the five steps outlined above and you should start to see some traffic from it. After you have done your commenting, do not let it stop there. Continue to build up a list of other blog sites that you can visit on a daily basis and see what is now.

The easiest way to do that is through RSS feeds and Google Reader.

After The Comment – Added Marketing Power

Here is a little tip to give today’s daily kick a little more marketing power. After you have found five blogs to comment on, and after you have left your great comment; go social with it.

If you have a Twitter account (and if you do not, start one!), then Tweet the blog post to your followers. This will not only help the website owner get a little more traffic, but also expose your comment to more people.

So, there you have today’s assignment. Give it a try and drop me a comment about your results.

One of the best activities in your daily marketing routine that you can do is to make a new connection, or contact. This is also one of the most uncomfortable internet marketing activity. Several years ago, you could remain pretty much anonymous and still create a great deal of traffic, sales, and authority. With the new rules of social media, and networking, this is no longer the case.

In order to get the most out of your online business, make it a priority to meet a few new people each week. This is something that can greatly increase your marketing leverage without spending any more in your advertising budget to do it. Meeting new people will do a few things for you.

1. You broaden your network of business contacts and friends.

2. You receive recommendations for other people who can help you.

3. Your new contacts will now recommend you to their connections.

4. New joint ventures can happen overnight because of the contacts that you made.

5. You know that there are other people doing the same thing you are.

Make A New Contact Today!

Putting feet to your business is the only way that you will be able to compete in today’s incredibly fast paced online world. However, you must get over your fears of meeting new people. If you are one of those people who can instantly reach out to new people and strike up interesting conversations, that is great! But, if you are like me… then you need to make this a top priority on your to do list.

Make a new contact today. With social networking that is very easy to do. Open up any type of social networking account and you can make several new contacts on a daily basis. For me, there are three that work very well.

Twitter. Find new people, that you do not know, and introduce yourself by following them and using the @reply feature. Reply to something they wrote, or answer a question they asked. However, the key is to be a part of their stream.

Facebook. Another great way to meet a new person each day is with Facebook. You probably have several friends on your account now, but how much do you really interact with them? Send a message about their recent blog post, comment on a status, or recommend them in your update. Join a group and talk with people there, and interact on fan pages. The key is not to just collect “friends”, but to meet them and get to know them.

LinkedIn. The last of the sites is LinkedIn. This is mostly for business professionals, but anyone can take advantage of the site. Meet new people on a daily basis and get to know their business. You might need them some day.

Go Ahead, Make A New Contact!

Chances are, you are already involved on these sites. Use them today to make a contact that you can begin to cultivate, keep in touch with, and interact with.

Well, here we are. The very first day of a brand new year. January 1, 2010 is here and presents all of us with the same thing. A clean slate.

One of the things that I have always loved about New Year’s Day is the fact that I am looking down at a blank year where nothing has happened yet… but, the potential is there. The opportunities are unlimited and all I have to do is step in the right direction. For me, one of those opportunities is going to start with The Daily Kick posts. And those opportunities are going to rely on one major development.

Your Daily Kick Today

Success is limited to only one thing. Commitment. Do you have any?

I am reminded of a time when I was coaching a youth basketball team. One of the kids on the team was someone who had tremendous potential, but was lacking one thing. Commitment. He just didn’t want to give 100%. He would give up in the middle of a game.

It was frustrating.

Your Daily Kick today is one to help both you and I. It is about commitment.

Before you do anything this year… Before you make any plans… Before you start doing any advertising, any writing, buy any ad space, make a video, start a blog, or join any programs… make a commitment to work at your success daily.

A Daily Commitment To Success

I am not trying to say that you have to stay tied to your computer every single day. But, I am saying that you should give everyday a full commitment. Do not go into a new day without giving it everything you have.

Make the commitment now. Today. January 1, 2010.

Will you?

If you haven’t noticed, the world of advertising on the internet is making a pretty big change from anonymous to personal. People are interacting with other people and the resulting relationships is what is driving traffic to websites. There are a lot of reasons why this is… all discussed on another website, but the simple fact remains that personal marketing is becoming more effective than mass, anonymous marketing.

Today’s Daily Kick is about being a little more personal in your advertising efforts. For those not social media savvy yet, there are two major social networking sites that have pretty much taken control of the hearts and minds of the entire planet. Facebook and Twitter are great ways to keep in touch with friends and family, but they are also fantastic vehicles to meet, and connect with, new people.

A major aspect of networking on these two sites is to make yourself available to interact with your friends or followers. One way to do this without trying to think up pithy little quotes and humorous quips is to answer questions.

That’s your task for today…

Answer at least three questions posted by your friends or followers.

If you’re not connected on either Facebook or Twitter, then today’s kick will sound foreign to you. If you are though… you have your task.

Answering Questions on Facebook and Twitter

Before you run off to complete your task there are a few things to consider.

1. Make sure you know the answer, or can find out. That might sound silly but many people will try to give an answer to a question they know nothing about.

2. Don’t point the answer in your direction. In giving an answer to someone’s question it is better to give than to receive. Give links to other websites, tell what someone else told you, or what has worked for others. That does not mean you never point to you, just don’t do it all the time.

3. Follow up Once you have given your answer, or answers, check to see if what you advised helped in any way. This goes along way to establish a friendship and label you as someone to come back to.

4. Make sure your profile is up to date. When you answer someone’s question for the first time, they are going to check up on you. The best place to do that is in your profile. Guess what they are going to look for first? Your website URL. Make sure everything is up to date.

There you go.

With that information in hand go…. right now… and begin looking for three different people who have a question of some kind that you can answer. It doesn’t have to be even related to your business at all. As long as you know the answer, give it.

Go.

Yes, you should sit down right now and write three blog posts.

Don’t let that scare you though. While you are writing three different blog posts they can still be the same. The previous Daily Kick was about setting up three blogs for you to use in your marketing campaign. Today you’re going to begin using those blogs as a traffic generator.

But, you still have to write three blog posts.

Different but the same

Can things be different but the same? Sure, there are all kinds of examples of things are different but the same.

Cars. You have Ford, Chevy, and Dodge. They are all cars, but different manufacturers.
Fruits. You have strawberries, oranges, and kiwis. They all taste great, but grow differently and have different tastes.
Houses. You have large mansions, smaller single family homes, and even condos. But, they are different in construction, price, and even durability.

There are a lot more examples, and I’m sure you’re probably thinking of them right now. And another example would be in your blog posts. You can have three posts that are the same (all dealing with the same topic) but are different (each one unique in wording or narrow focus.)

Here’s what you’re going to do.

Write one post three different ways.

Post #1 If, for instance, your three blogs are on the topic of fishing. Being from Northern Maine, I love fishing. It’s just about the only thing to do in the summer besides watch grass grow. Anyway… sit down and write on generic post on fishing like the types of lures that can be used for smallmouth bass.

This doesn’t have to be a major article of 1,000 words. A short listing of about five lures and short descriptions of each would suffice. Then you post it on your fishing blog.

Post #2 You take that same article and change it to be a little bit narrower to include lures that work in certain parts of the country. For example, fishing for smallmouth bass in Maine.

Post #3 The last post is a little more focused. You could now focus on specific lakes, weather conditions, or depths.

You’re written one but got three out of it.

That’s the key to success with three blogs for marketing, traffic generating, and preselling. And the key to keeping you sane and saving you time. Three same, but different blog posts.

Give it a try. Go ahead and write that one post, then narrow it down a little for two more short posts.

It’s a New Year! Today is Jan. 2nd and I am absolutely brimming with excitement about what this year holds in store. But, not just for me. I can’t wait to hear about the incredible things that happen to you this 2009!

To help you get your year started right I want to share with you a daily kick that is both very powerful, but also a little bit time consuming. Quite simply what you need to do is blog. But, not just once. Three times.

Blogging three different ways.

This is going to take a kick to get started. But, the rewards are greater than the investments.

What you need to do… today… is set up three different blogging accounts for three separate blogs. Yes, I said three. It’s easy. Trust me.

There is a reason for my madness here. By using the resources available on the internet for free promotion of your website, you are able to spread your name, brand, and offers in a much wider area than if you kept everything in one playground. I’m going to use a basketball example to help illustrate this.

In basketball there are five players on the court at a time. They must work together (passing, communicating, setting screens, moving without the ball, and other basketball terminology) in order to move the ball past the opponent’s defense and score. And not just once, but many, many times during the course of a game. Your blogging campaign is much like a basketball team. You need more than one player. You can have one really good player, but you need more than one.

Each “player” helps you to move the ball around by actively sending traffic to the “basket” (that would be your main website where your sales pitch is made). The players are the blogs, the blog posts, the guest posts, the comments… pretty much everything that happens at that blog. Only it’s not just one… there’s three. At least.

Set up your new blogs

This post is not a tutorial on how to set up a blog. What I’m going to do, though, is give you direction on where to go that will make setting up your three new blogs fairly easy and straightforward.

Blog #1. Go to Blogger.com and start an account. It’s free and it’s pretty simple.

Blog #2. Go to Wordpress.com and start an account. Again, it’s free and fairly straightforward.

Blog #3. This blog is going to be a self-hosted blog. That means it’s not free. You need to have a web host account and then set up a blog of your own. This sounds a little bit daunting, but it can be done pretty easily. Here’s how…

1. Go to Dreamhost.com and get started with a very cheap hosting account. You can get hosting for as little as $5.95 a month.

2. Register a domain name through the same account. You get a free domain name with you order so that makes things easier and cheaper. If you want to add more they are only $9.95 a year.

3. Once your account is started and your domain is registered Dreamhost has a great feature. They have this thing called “One Click Install”. Basically what it does is installs your choice of extras to your website. Even Wordpress blog platform. You don’t have to download anything. Just click it, set up some information and it’s ready.

Each Different, But The Same

Before you go off to do your merry blogging keep this in mind.

While your blogs are all teammates they should all have distinct personalities. What I mean by this is that while being the same niche, they should be different in topic. Each blog stands is basically the same niche, but are focusing on a different topic within that niche. This way you can attract different visitors than you would with just one blog. See, teammates working together for the benefit of the team.

Another consideration to keep in mind is that you should mix up the info so you aren’t using duplicate content. If you write a blog post for one blog that could be used on the others reword them and use different phrases throughout each post.

Of course, original content for each blog would be a huge benefit to your traffic, and more importantly your search engine rankings. Don’t let that scare you. They don’t all have to be 1000 word posts. Short, concise 200 word posts are just as effective.

So….

Go start those blogs. Get them set up and start posting. Stay consistent at it and you’ll begin seeing traffic coming to your main site through three different funnels.

After a long hiatus, the Your Daily Kick section of this blog is now back and ready for action. When I started this section the premise was to help people by giving useful, relevant, timely, and easy to implement actionable advertising tips. A kind of kick in the pants to get your advertising off the ground, your creativity flowing, and/or thoughts for later on.

And things were going pretty good, but I stumbled… well, more like fumbled the ball and let it slide. I’ve decided to bring it back and renew Your Daily Kick.

So, your kick for today… the action you should take right now is to… sit and think.

To be more precise; sit down in a quiet location for 15 minutes and think about something related to your advertising and then do it. Let’s break this down a little so you can see what I mean.

Sit down. This isn’t just something you should do once in a while. I once read somewhere that when you take just 15 minutes a day to sit down and think your productivity increases. You seem to focus on things better and are not doing anything else. When you’re walking around, listening to music, doing laundry, walking on treadmill, taking the dog out, or any other of a wide variety of things that people do you’re not really focusing. Sitting down helps set the mood for thinking.

In a quiet location. You can’t think with noise going on around you. I’ve heard a lot of the excuses people make.

“I need some noise in the background.”
“I think better with my mp3 player blasting in my ears.”
“I have kids and they find me everywhere.”

Do any of these sound familiar? I’ve used them all myself. However, the fact still remains that when I set aside a few minutes every day to sit down away from everything and think I get a lot more done during the day.

For 15 minutes. No more. No less. Set an alarm if you need to. But, 15 minutes of silence, by yourself, sitting down can lead to hours of effective productivity. For you marketing needs, these 15 minutes can lead to a fulfilling day of advertising that produces results. Why 15 minutes?

This way you can’t overwhelm yourself with a bunch of tasks that you can’t possibly complete. You have enough time to think about what you need to do, how to do it, and get yourself ready to do it. And because it’s really not that long.

Especially if you have kids. I find this works for me because I have three homeschooled kids running around everyday and any longer than 15 minutes means complete chaos.

Think about something related to your advertising. This doesn’t mean the errands you need to run today, the leaky faucet that needs to be fixed, what you’re going to have for dinner, or the birthday gift you need to pick up. It means something related to your advertising.

Then do it. After you’ve sat down in a quiet location for 15 minutes and thought about something related to your online advertising then you’re ready to actually do it.

Whatever you thought about, planned out, or decided to do related to your marketing… do it! Don’t sit on it. Don’t leave it for later. Don’t end your 15 minutes and then immediately go into mowing the lawn, going to the store, or checking out your RSS reader. Do your advertising. If you put it off for later you will either cut corners or continue to put it off.

Do it.

Ready, Set… Go!

There you have it. Your Daily Kick for the day. Actually, something you should do everyday. Make it a daily habit. For me, this is the first thing I do after I check out my email, RSS feeds, and social networking activities.

What are you waiting for? Get going. Sit down and think.

Your Daily Kick….

A daily kick in the advertising pants to help you get more traffic, increased exposure, and strong reputation.

Your Daily Kick for Tuesday, June 3!

Advertising Action: Write an article and submit it to 5 directories.

Writing articles is a quick and simple way to advertise your website. Most people will wince at the use of both ‘quick’ and ’simple’. However, it can be very quick, very simple, and quite painless.

The key to writing articles is to sit down and do it, then submit them.

Today’s daily kick is all about getting things done. I believe that the longer you put something off the less likely you are to do it. That is so true when talking about writing articles for website promotion. This is true because most people don’t like to write.

A major key to successful article marketing is the down and dirty, get to it, writing of the article. It’s true. If you just take some time to sit down and begin writing something you’ll turn it into an article, of some sort, that you can then take and submit it to article directories.

3 Quick Tips To Writing Your Article Today

1. Answer a question. One of the best ways to get your article done quickly is to answer a question with your article. No matter what the topic of your website chances are there is a forum for it. Check it out and see what questions are being asked. Google your niche and see what is being tossed around. Pick a question that you can answer in about 400 words. Bang… you’ve got an article.

2. Write the first things that come to mind. Hopefully when you picked a question to answer it is one that you have pretty good knowledge about. This way you can write about something quickly and show passion with authority. This helps the reader with their decision to visit your website. The reason for this is that you can begin to write what comes to your mind. You don’t need to spend a lot of time researching. Just start writing.

3. Don’t get hung up on perfection. This is the reason many people don’t like to write. They have this ridiculous thought that their article has to be perfect. That is has to be a masterpiece of words and thoughts. Don’t believe it.

If you can put together a few paragraphs that flow with some sort of direction you’ve pretty much written an article. You don’t need to be overly elaborate in your information. The key is to get the reader to go to your website for the rest of the information or to buy something.

5 Article Directories To Submit Your Article To Today

After you’ve written your article then you have to submit it. It simply won’t do any good sitting in a file on your computer. Here’s a few to get your rolling today.

EzineArticles.com. This is the largest, most widely known, first checked out, and influential in article marketing. By submitting to this directory on a daily basis you are going to see skyrocketing traffic numbers.

GoArticles.com. Another large directory.
ArticleDashboard.com.
ArticleGold.com. A good article directory.
ArticleAlley.com. A decent directory.

Remember to start writing and submitting

Get your advertising started now by sitting down, writing our article, and submitting it. It shouldn’t take you more than an hour or two.
