Tim, thanks for the straight talk and simple advice. Over the past several years I have danced around affiliate marketing but never taken the plunge. It's nice to know that I can now dive with instructions. Thanks!--Karen

I definitely agree with both Garen and Mayank.
Having the passion for niche makes it far easier to be successful – it allows you to be empathetic towards the market you are targeting and is easier to put yourself into their shoes.
And having a relationship between yourself and your visitors ensures that they will continue to support you and continue to return. This is where constantly adding to your content applies – it is necessary to give your visitors a reason to return.

Very informative. I'm thinking of making money through affiliate marketing for some while and this post really put some thoughts into my decision.

Tim,
No problem. I have been looking around the internet for ways of promoting using web 2.0 which I have found a lot of useful information out there. I have conquered the article writing and blogging world, at least i think. I will be looking in at building opt-ins too.

tell next time

Building an opt-in list is really useful for affliates. It makes sure that you can build a long term relationship with visitors to your site. Who will otherwise may or may not buy the affiliate product and then go away for good.

Hi Garen!

Thanks for dropping by. Research is an ongoing task that all affiliates should take the time to do. That goes with the first point I made about learning. 2.0 websites are an amazing way to learn as you're getting real time info from people who are actively engaged in the marketing process. Thanks for adding to the conversation!

I fully agree that you must have some passion for your niche. It makes it so much easier to actually make money in your niche. Your research is the most important part too. You need to look on web 2.0 sites and find out what people are asking. You have got to put yourself in the customer's shoes.

I enjoyed reading your blog, please take a look at my blog on Legit Money Making.
